"Bugonia": 6 Minutes of Ovation

The film, the fourth collaboration between Stone and Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos (after The Favourite, Poor Things, and Kinds of Kindness), received a standing ovation of almost 7 minutes at the Sala Grande.

The plot: Stone plays Michelle Fuller, the powerful CEO of a pharmaceutical company who is kidnapped by two young conspiracy theorists (Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis) convinced she's an alien sent to destroy Earth. A remake of the Korean film "Save the Green Planet!" that mixes thriller, black comedy, and social critique.

The Venetian audience alternated between stunned silence and laughter during the two-hour screening, then erupted in applause that saw Lanthimos, Stone, Plemons, and the entire cast bow multiple times, hand in hand.
